Performance comparison of a set of periodic and non-periodic tridiagonal solvers on SP2 and Paragon parallel computers

چکیده
Various tridiagonal solvers have been proposed in recent years for di erent parallel platforms. In this paper, the performance of three tridiagonal solvers, namely, the parallel partition LU algorithm, the parallel diagonal dominant algorithm, and the reduced diagonal dominant algorithm, is studied. These algorithms are designed for distributed-memory machines and are tested on an Intel Paragon and an IBM SP2 machines. Measured results are reported in terms of execution time and speedup. Analytical study are conducted for di erent communication topologies and for di erent tridiagonal systems. The measured results match the analytical results closely. In addition to address implementation issues, performance considerations such as problem sizes and models of speedup are also discussed. A Fast Parallel Tridiagonal Algorithm for a Class of CFD Applications
The parallel diagonal dominant (PDD) algorithm is an efficient tridiagonal solver. This paper presents for study a variation of the PDD algorithm, the reduced PDD algorithm. The new algorithm maintains the minimum communication provided by the PDD algorithm, but has a reduced operation count. The PDD algorithm also has a smaller operation count than the conventional sequential algorithm for man...
متن کاملThe E ect of Interrupts on Software Pipeline Execution onMessage - passing
Observations show that ne-grain software pipelines on MIMD parallel computers with asynchronous communication suuer from dynamic load imbalances which cause delays in addition to the expected pipeline ll time. An analytical model that explains these load imbalances is presented. Optimizations derived from the analysis result in signiicant improvements in program performance. The results of appl...
متن کاملAlternating-Direction Line-Relaxation Methods on Multicomputers
We study the multicomputer performance of a three-dimensional Navier-Stokes solver based on alternating-direction line-relaxation methods. We compare several multicomputer implementations, each of which combines a particular line-relaxation method and a particular distributed block-tridiagonal solver. In our experiments, the problem size was determined by resolution requirements of the applicat...
متن کاملCoordinating pricing and periodic review replenishment decisions in a two-echelon supply chain using quantity discount contract
In this paper, the coordination of pricing and periodic review inventory decisions in a supplier-retailer supply chain (SC) is proposed. In the investigated SC, the retailer faces a stochastic price dependent demand and determines the review period, order-up-to-level, and retail price. On the other hand, the supplier decides on the replenishment multiplier. Firstly, the decentralized and centra...
متن کاملPerformance Range Comparison via Crossing Point Analysis
Parallel programming is elusive. The relative performance of di erent parallel implementations varies with machine architecture, system and problem size. How to compare di erent implementations over a wide range of machine architectures and problem sizes has never been well addressed due to its di culty. Scalability has been proposed in recent years to reveal scaling properties of parallel algo...
